German Grills and the Best BBQ Brands: Quality, Passion and Design https://www.remundi-grill.de/en/german-grills-best-bbq-brands/ Fri, 16 Oct 2026 19:41:27 +0000 https://www.remundi-grill.de/?p=31051 Grilling is more than cooking: it is a way of life. In Germany in particular, barbecuing has a special place. Whether it is a summer barbecue party in the garden or a cosy winter BBQ, Germans love to fire up the grill. But what makes German grills so special? And why are German grill makers known worldwide for quality and innovation? In this article, we take a look behind the scenes of German BBQ brands and explain what to look for in a high-quality barbecue.

Why Do Germans Love Barbecuing So Much?

Barbecuing is simply part of German culture. It is not just a way of preparing food but above all a social occasion. Gathering around the grill brings family and friends together. It gets even more special when you grill over an open fire. In terms of atmosphere, plancha grills and fire plates clearly beat the popular gas grill.

There are no culinary limits either: from classic bratwurst and juicy steaks to fish and vegetarian or vegan alternatives, everyone can cook their favourites over the fire.

One reason Germans are so passionate about grilling may be their love of precision and perfection. Let’s be honest: cooking on a high-quality grill takes not only skill but also the right equipment and accessories. That is exactly where German grills come in.

What Sets a Good German Grill Apart

The best BBQ brands from Germany stand out for three reasons in particular:

1. Top Quality in Materials and Workmanship

A good grill is built to last. German BBQ brands rely on high-quality materials such as stainless steel, heat-resistant steel and robust cast iron grates. Every grill is made with great precision so that it still works reliably after years of intensive use.

The careful workmanship shows in every detail: no sharp edges, perfectly fitting parts and a solid build. This is no coincidence but the result of strict quality controls and high engineering standards. Spare parts for quality grills are also often available for much longer, should anything ever break.

2. Innovation and Technical Finesse

A grill from a German brand is often a small masterpiece of engineering. Many models come with clever features that make grilling easier and more versatile. Whether it is precise temperature control, an iconic design or a well-thought-out accessory system, German makers know exactly what matters.

A good example is the development of fire plates with adjustable air supply, which let you control the heat precisely. Combined with a range of grill modules as attachments, you can cook all kinds of dishes at the same time. That is how our Remundi grills deliver perfect results.

3. Sustainability

More and more German grill makers place great value on sustainability. Production often takes place under fair working conditions and with environmentally friendly processes. Durable products also save resources, because they do not need replacing after just a few years.

Short transport routes are often a priority in production too. A grill made in Europe therefore leaves a smaller ecological footprint than an import from overseas. When suppliers are also based in Europe, the whole supply chain stays transparent and sustainable.

German BBQ Brands Set the Bar High

German grills are known for meeting the highest standards. Nothing is left to chance: from the choice of materials to the practical features of the grill. The result is products that not only look good but are also functional and long-lasting.

That is why the range of German BBQ brands is so impressive. Whether you are a fan of the classic charcoal grill, prefer gas or love grilling over an open fire with a plancha grill, you are sure to find the right model among German brands.

What Does the “Made in Germany” Seal Mean for Grills?

“Made in Germany” is more than a statement of origin. Worldwide, it stands for trust, reliability and quality. A grill manufactured in Germany often meets considerably higher standards than comparable products from other countries. This shows not only in the workmanship but also in safety and ease of use.

A grill from a quality brand is an investment that pays off. The combination of first-class materials, thoughtful design and innovative technology means you will enjoy your grill for a long time.

Conclusion: Our Passion for Great Grills

As passionate barbecue fans, we know how important a good grill is. Our grills are designed in Germany and made in Europe. That is why we rely on the highest standards and innovative solutions for our products.

Whether you are an experienced grill master or just starting out: with a grill from a quality brand, you choose a product that will stay with you for many years. Because grilling is more than cooking. It is a passion that is even more fun with the right equipment.

BBQ Salads: 10 Delicious Salads for Your Barbecue https://www.remundi-grill.de/en/bbq-salads/ Fri, 16 Oct 2026 19:41:23 +0000 https://www.remundi-grill.de/?p=31050 Salads for BBQ Are Always Popular

There is a good reason why salads for BBQ are a favourite at every barbecue party. They are a refreshing, versatile addition to grilled meat, fish or vegetables and bring lightness to the plate. The grill may take centre stage, but it is the salads that round off the meal and create a delicious balance between hearty grilled dishes and cool, crunchy flavours. Whether a classic potato salad, an exotic couscous salad or a fruity mix of seasonal fruit and crisp vegetables: salads offer endless ways to treat your taste buds.

Another reason BBQ salads are so popular is that they are easy to make and can be prepared in advance. That is especially handy when you are expecting guests or when the grill itself needs your full attention. Salads are also often a healthy alternative to heavier sides, and you can easily adapt them to your guests’ preferences, with different ingredients or a different dressing.

BBQ salads on the table at a barbecue

Recipes: 10 Tasty BBQ Salads for Every Taste

There is a salad for every taste that goes perfectly with grilled meat, fish or vegetables. If you love Mediterranean flavours, try a couscous salad with grilled vegetables, fresh herbs and a touch of lemon. If you prefer something more exotic, an Asian glass noodle salad with grilled tofu and crunchy vegetables is a light yet filling side.

For fans of fruity combinations, salads with sweet elements such as watermelon or strawberries are ideal. They pair beautifully with savoury ingredients like feta or goat’s cheese. A fruity spinach and strawberry salad with grilled walnuts and goat’s cheese, for example, brings something special to the table with its mix of sweet and savoury.

Classic salads such as potato salad or tomato mozzarella salad also get an exciting, modern twist with grilled components or a special dressing. A simple dish becomes a highlight of your barbecue, as a side or even as a main course. Vegan, vegetarian or with meat: BBQ salads offer something for everyone.

Vegetarian BBQ: Meat-Free Grilling Ideas for Every Taste https://www.remundi-grill.de/en/vegetarian-bbq/ Fri, 16 Oct 2026 19:41:19 +0000 https://www.remundi-grill.de/?p=31049 When people think of a barbecue, they usually picture steaks, skewers and sausages. But grilling without meat is becoming more and more popular! Not only because vegetarian and vegan diets are on trend, but also because grilled vegetables are delicious and healthy. Meat-free options are versatile and anything but boring. Find out how a vegetarian BBQ works and which tasty variations there are.

How to Plan a Vegetarian BBQ

A vegetarian BBQ is simple and offers endless combinations. Here are some vegetarian BBQ ideas to make your next barbecue meat-free.

Grilled Vegetables Made Easy

Grilled vegetables are the classic of the vegetarian barbecue and incredibly versatile:

  • Corn on the cob: Simply brush with a little butter or oil, season with salt and place directly on the grill. The light smoky note gives the corn a special flavour.
  • Potatoes: Wrap pre-cooked potatoes in aluminium foil and put them on the grill. They turn soft inside and slightly crispy outside. Alternatively, season potato slices with rosemary and garlic.
  • Peppers: Halve, deseed and brush with a little olive oil. Grilled peppers become wonderfully sweet and go perfectly with dips such as hummus.
  • Courgettes and aubergines: Slice, marinate and place directly on the grill grate. Tip: a marinade of olive oil, lemon juice and Italian herbs adds a Mediterranean aroma.
  • Mushrooms: Large mushrooms work especially well. Fill them with cream cheese, spinach or garlic butter before grilling.
  • Asparagus: Green asparagus is easy to grill and tastes particularly good with a light lemon marinade.
  • Beetroot: Cook thin slices in aluminium foil or roast them directly on the grill. An insider tip for an intense flavour.

Fruit such as pineapple, peaches or bananas is also excellent on the grill. The heat caramelises the sugar in the fruit and adds a sweet note. Grilled pineapple with cinnamon, for example, is a popular dessert. Try watermelon or figs too, to offer your guests something special.

Vegan BBQ with Meat Alternatives

Meat substitutes are now very popular and offer plenty of options for the grill:

  • Tofu: Extra-firm tofu is ideal for grilling. Marinate it beforehand so it absorbs the flavours. A soy sauce marinade with ginger and garlic adds an Asian touch.
  • Seitan: This plant-based source of protein has a meat-like texture and tastes great with spicy marinades. Seitan steaks grill well and go perfectly with vegetable sides.
  • Burger patties: There are countless vegetarian and vegan patties that are perfect for the grill. Combine them with fresh buns, lettuce and dips such as guacamole.
  • Sausages: Vegetarian barbecue sausages are a quick and tasty alternative to classic bratwurst. They come in many flavours.
  • Skewers: Combine meat substitutes and vegetables on one skewer for a creative, versatile option. Tip: thread marinated tofu cubes with peppers, courgette and pineapple onto a grill skewer.
  • Jackfruit: This tropical fruit is known for its meat-like texture. It is perfect for pulled jackfruit sandwiches from the grill.

Why Marinades Matter

Marinades are key to a successful vegetarian BBQ. They create intense flavour and stop the food from drying out. A few ideas:

  • Asian: soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger and garlic.
  • Mediterranean: olive oil, lemon juice, thyme and oregano.
  • Spicy: chilli flakes, paprika, garlic and lime juice.
  • Sweet: honey, mustard, balsamic vinegar and a splash of orange juice.

Leave the food in the marinade for at least 30 minutes for the best flavour. For an even more intense taste, brush on more marinade several times while grilling.

Tasty Side Dishes for a Vegetarian Barbecue

A great barbecue evening also needs the right sides. Here are some ideas that win over vegetarians and meat lovers alike:

  • Bread: Garlic bread, ciabatta or flatbread go perfectly with grilling. Homemade focaccia with rosemary is another great option. Or try grill bread baked directly on the grate.
  • Salads: Classic potato salad, couscous salad or a fresh green salad: the choice is huge. Try a pasta salad with pesto or a quinoa salad with pomegranate seeds. You will find ten recipes in our article on BBQ salads.
  • Dips: Homemade dips such as guacamole, hummus, tzatziki or a fresh yoghurt dip are ideal companions. A tomato salsa or a spicy mango chutney adds variety.
  • Grilled vegetables: Colourful vegetable mixes cooked on a grill plate. Tip: combine them with a light vinaigrette.
  • Stuffed peppers or mushrooms: Filled with couscous, quinoa or cheese and cooked directly on the grill.
  • Grilled cheese: Halloumi or feta in aluminium foil with tomatoes, onions and spices. Delicious and versatile.

With our plancha grills and fire plates, you can grill meat as well as vegan or vegetarian food. They are also a real eye-catcher in any garden!

Every year, the days in September and October get shorter and colder again. Many grill fans ask themselves: Can I still grill outdoors in the cold season? The answer is a clear yes. Winter BBQ is more popular than ever!

In this article, we explain why grilling in winter keeps getting more popular. We also share our best tips and ideas for a successful winter BBQ, including the right grills, from a table grill to a fire plate. Discover what makes grilling in winter so special and get inspired!

Why Winter BBQ Keeps Getting More Popular

Winter Grilling as a Social Experience

Grilling in winter has a special appeal. It brings people together in the cold and the dark. Everyone gathers around the warming fire. The crackling of the grill and the tempting smell of the food create a unique atmosphere. Spending a few cozy hours at the grill with your loved ones is something you should definitely try. You will notice how a winter BBQ literally brings everyone closer together.

A Special Atmosphere of Fire and Frost

Crackling flames, rising smoke and biting cold create a mood you can only experience when grilling in winter. The striking contrast between the heat of the grill and the cold air around you makes it something really special. In the snow and over the holidays around Christmas, a winter BBQ feels almost magical!

Winter BBQ Is a Real Trend

In recent years, winter grilling has become a real hype in Germany. Even local beer brands like Krostitzer have been hosting a big winter grilling competition for many years. Smaller cities like Mülheim an der Ruhr are also discovering winter BBQ events for their city marketing. Events like these give the trend an extra boost.

Grilling All Year Round Instead of Just in Summer

Many grill fans don’t want to give up grilled meat or vegetables in winter. And why should they? With the right grill, like one of our fire plates, and a little preparation, you can enjoy grilling in the cold season without any trouble. That way, you can enjoy your favorite hobby all year long. Enjoy the freedom to fire up the grill whenever you like!

General Tips for Your Winter BBQ

Respect Your Neighbors & the Rules

If you grill in winter, let your neighbors know, or even better, invite them. The smell of fire makes some people quite nervous. Not everyone expects a BBQ party next door in December, and they might think something is on fire.

You should also turn down the music and keep the noise level low after 10 p.m., since quiet hours usually start then. Grilling on a balcony, for example, follows clear legal rules (German source) shaped by many court rulings. The same applies to grilling in winter.

A Roof Over Your Heads

A grill gazebo gives your guests ideal protection from rain, snow and cold in winter. That way, you can grill outdoors in winter without any problems. Even when it rains, you can keep grilling without rushing. Under the gazebo, everyone can get cozy with a mug of mulled wine while, ideally, white snowflakes fall. The roof keeps your grill dry and creates a sheltered space where everyone can relax and enjoy the winter evening.

A grill gazebo is also a handy shelter for guests who want some fresh air or a smoke without being exposed to the weather. Make sure the gazebo is made of sturdy, fire-resistant material. Rust-free materials are important too. That way, it protects you in winter and gives you welcome shade in summer, which makes it a great addition for every season.

Plan the Food Around Your Guests

Not everyone likes everything. We recommend planning your food around your guests. For example, you can ask in a WhatsApp group or in person beforehand who likes what. This helps you plan your shopping for the winter BBQ perfectly. Do you need more meat or fish? Steaks or sausages? Burgers or skewers? How many vegetables, sides and desserts will you need? It’s best to ask all of this if you don’t know your guests as well as your own family ;)

The Best Grills for a Winter BBQ

To make your food really delicious, you need the right grill, of course. Depending on how much space you have and how many people you want to cook for, there are plenty of options.

Table Grills: Compact Solutions for Smaller Groups

Small stainless steel table grills are space-saving and flexible companions, perfect for a winter BBQ for two. They give you warmth and a cooking surface in a small space. That makes them easy to use on balconies or smaller patios. Enjoy cozy winter grilling with our bestseller: the Piccolo table grill.

High-Quality Gas Grills for Flexibility

Powerful gas grills give you lots of options, even in cooler temperatures. Besides classic grilling, you can also make delicious stews, sauces or other warming dishes to keep your guests well fed.

A key advantage of a gas grill is that you can fire it up for just a short time during your winter BBQ. On the other hand, you lose some of the charm because there is no campfire feeling.

Our Recommendation: A Fire Plate for Getting Together

Grilling in winter with charcoal or firewood creates a special atmosphere: the warm, natural light and crackling flames make the evening cozier. The open fire of a fire plate also adds a smoky aroma that gives your food a more intense flavor. Gas grills simply can’t offer that.

Traditional grilling on a fire plate connects you with nature and invites everyone to gather around the fire. Cooking becomes an experience that brings your guests together. Everyone can cook their own food just the way they like it, because everyone stands around the fire plate together and chats.

A gas grill is practical and fast, but cooking over real fire brings a natural calm to the evening. Especially in the dark winter months, the light of the flames creates unforgettable moments around the fire pit.

Tip: Special Covers to Protect Against Cold and Wind

High-quality grill covers protect your grill from wind and weather. So you can grill outdoors in snow and ice without damaging your equipment. Invest in a sturdy winter cover and enjoy carefree grilling even in freezing temperatures!

Fiery Ideas for a Winter BBQ Party

Creative Grill Dishes for the Cold Season

A winter BBQ lets you get really creative. Besides classics like tender steaks, juicy bratwurst or crispy grilled chicken, hearty stews, baked potatoes or warm desserts like Kaiserschmarrn (fluffy shredded pancakes) are perfect for your winter barbecue. Don’t forget BBQ salads when you plan the menu. Seasonal ingredients like cinnamon or tangerines might inspire some new culinary experiments, too.

Decoration Ideas for a Cozy Winter BBQ Party

Festive table decorations set the perfect scene for your winter BBQ. These decoration ideas create the right atmosphere for grilling in winter:

  • Warm light: candles, tea lights or bamboo torches
  • Patio heaters or lanterns
  • Fir branches and wintry accessories like snowflakes
  • Atmospheric string lights (colorful or twinkling, if that’s your style)
  • Napkins with matching winter designs

All these details create a cozy atmosphere and round off the look of your winter BBQ. But one thing should never be missing at any party:

Delicious Drinks with a Winter Touch

Hot drinks like warming mulled wine, aromatic punch or Feuerzangenbowle (a German rum punch) are ideal companions for your winter BBQ. For the little ones, you can make a sweet non-alcoholic punch. It warms you from the inside and fits the cold season perfectly. Coffee, tea or hot chocolate with marshmallows are tasty options too, but rather as a match for dessert!

Grilling in Winter Is an Experience

Let the magic of winter grilling win you over and discover the joy of grilling in every season! With the right grill, tasty recipe ideas and cozy decorations, your winter barbecue will be an unforgettable experience. Use our tips and start your own winter BBQ adventure soon. We wish you lots of fun and delicious moments with your loved ones at the crackling winter grill, ideally from Remundi!

How to Clean Grill Grates: The Best Tips for a Spotless Grill https://www.remundi-grill.de/en/how-to-clean-grill-grates/ Fri, 04 Sep 2026 12:51:08 +0000 https://www.remundi-grill.de/grillrost-reinigen-die-besten-tipps-fuer-eine-saubere-grillrostreinigung/ After a successful barbecue evening, there is often a less popular job waiting: cleaning the grill grate. Burnt-on food residue and grease can sometimes be hard to remove. With the right methods and household remedies, however, cleaning your grill grate is effortless. Here you will find out how to clean your stainless steel or cast iron grill grate effectively and which household remedies work wonders.

Why Is Cleaning Your Grill Grate Regularly Important?

A clean grill grate not only ensures hygienic grilling, it also extends the life of your grill. Burnt-on residue can spoil the taste of your food and reduce the performance of your grill. To keep your grill grate in good shape for a long time, you should clean it after every barbecue. Thorough care is especially worthwhile with heavy use or very dirty grill grates.

Cleaning also prevents old grease and food residue from causing smoke and unpleasant smells the next time you grill. The sooner you start cleaning after grilling, the easier it will be.

How to Clean a Cast Iron Grill Grate

A cast iron grill grate is particularly robust, but it needs special care to prevent rust.

This is how to clean and care for it properly:

  • Burn it off after grilling: After the last use, let the grill grate burn off at high heat to remove food residue. This makes cleaning afterwards much easier.
  • Brushing: Use a grill brush with brass bristles, as these will not scratch the sensitive material. Brush the grate thoroughly.
  • No water: Avoid cleaning with water, as cast iron rusts quickly. If water is necessary, dry the grate immediately.
  • Oiling: After cleaning, rub the grate with an oil-soaked cloth to preserve it and protect it from rust. Cooking oils such as sunflower or rapeseed oil are ideal.
  • Stubborn dirt: For heavily burnt-on areas, you can make a paste of baking soda and water. Apply the paste, leave it to work and then brush the grate carefully.

How to Clean a Stainless Steel Grill Grate

Stainless steel grill grates are easier to clean and less prone to rust. At Remundi, we use this high-quality material for our grill accessories. Even so, they need regular care:

  • Soaking: Place the grill grate in warm water with washing-up liquid. Leave it to soak for at least 30 minutes to loosen burnt-on residue.
  • Scrubbing: Use a stainless steel brush or a scouring sponge to remove dirt. Stubborn spots can be treated with a plastic scraper.
  • Household tip: Baking soda and vinegar are an effective combination for removing even stubborn stains. Mix the two into a paste, apply it to the grate and leave it to work.
  • Polishing: To keep the shine of your stainless steel grill grate, you can polish it with a dry cloth after cleaning.

Household Remedies for Cleaning Grill Grates

If you want to clean your grill grate without using harsh chemicals, household remedies are the perfect solution. Some tried-and-tested tips:

  • Newspaper: Wrap the cooled grill grate in damp newspaper and leave it to soak overnight. The next day, the residue comes off easily.
  • Baking soda and vinegar: A mixture of baking soda and vinegar helps loosen burnt-on dirt. Apply the paste to the grate, leave it to work and then rinse it off with warm water.
  • Coffee grounds: The scrubbing effect of coffee grounds is ideal for stubborn dirt. Simply apply the damp coffee grounds, rub them in and rinse off.
  • Onion: Half an onion is a surprisingly effective cleaning agent. Rub the still-warm grate with the cut side of the onion. The onion juice helps dissolve grease and has an antibacterial effect.

Bonus tip: Household remedies are not only environmentally friendly but also inexpensive. Try out different methods to find out which works best for you and your grill grate.

How to Clean Burnt-On Grill Grates

Burnt-on residue often takes more patience and special methods. Here are some effective tricks:

  • Oven cleaner spray: It can work wonders. Spray it onto the cold grill grate, leave it to work and then wipe it off with a damp cloth. Remember to rinse the grate thoroughly before using it again.
  • Dishwasher tablets: Dissolve a dishwasher tablet in hot water and place the grate in it. After an hour, burnt-on residue comes off easily.
  • Burning off the grill: Heat the grill to its maximum temperature and leave it closed for about 15 minutes. The heat loosens burnt-on residue, which you can then brush off.
  • Aluminium foil: A crumpled ball of aluminium foil also makes an excellent cleaning tool. Rub it over the burnt-on areas to remove them.

How to Clean a Very Dirty Grill

If not only the grill grate but the whole grill is very dirty, a thorough clean is worthwhile:

  • Rough cleaning: Remove coarse dirt and ash with a grill spatula or a shovel.
  • Steam: A steam cleaner helps loosen greasy deposits and stubborn dirt. Steam is also environmentally friendly and effective.
  • Vinegar water: Mix water and vinegar in a 1:1 ratio and use it to wipe the inner surfaces of the grill. Then wipe again with clean water.
  • Grates and plates: Remove all detachable parts and clean them separately with washing-up liquid or household remedies. After all, you want your high-quality plancha grill to last a long time and keep looking good.
  • Grease tray: Don’t forget to empty and clean the grease tray. Burnt-on grease causes unpleasant smells!

Cleaning Your Grill Grate: Prevention Is Better Than Cure

With our grill grate cleaning tips, your next barbecue will be a clean affair. The most important thing is to clean regularly. Ideally, don’t wait until you have a burnt-on grill grate to deal with, but look after it regularly. Cleanliness belongs to grilling just as much as the heat of the fire.

To keep your grill grate clean in the long run, you can prevent and minimise dirt. Place aluminium foil or a grill mat on the grate to protect it. Clean the grate straight after grilling while it is still warm. Store the grate in a dry place and care for it with oil.

Plancha Grill Temperature: The Three Heat Zones of Your Fire Plate https://www.remundi-grill.de/en/plancha-grill-temperature-heat-zones/ Thu, 27 Aug 2026 08:53:26 +0000 https://www.remundi-grill.de/?p=29308

Plancha Grill Temperature: The Three Heat Zones of Your Fire Plate

You put the steak in the center, the vegetables at the edge, and both finish cooking at the same time. That’s no accident — it’s physics. A plancha fire plate is never the same temperature everywhere. This guide shows you the three temperature zones of your plate, the exact degree ranges for each zone, and how to use them deliberately for whatever you’re grilling.

Schematic illustration of a fire plate showing the three temperature zones: center, middle zone, and edge

Quick answer: How hot does a plancha grill get?

A Remundi fire plate reaches three temperature zones at the same time: 250–350 °C in the center (up to 400 °C under strong firing), 150–200 °C in the middle zone, and 80–100 °C at the outer edge. The zone determines the result, not the clock. Center for searing, middle zone for cooking through, edge for keeping warm.

These values apply to a freshly lit plate. As runtime increases, the heat migrates outward: grill master Uwe Schott observes in practice that once the plate is fully heated through, the middle zone runs closer to 280–300 °C and the edge climbs to as much as 180 °C. These are practical guideline values from his own experience, not manufacturer-confirmed or measured with instruments.

Why a Plancha Plate Doesn’t Heat Evenly

Remundi plancha fire plate in use, center and edge zone clearly visible

The fire sits at the center of the fire bowl, directly beneath the plate. Heat travels outward from there and loses strength along the way. That gradient is exactly what makes the plate such a versatile tool. You don’t need a second cooking station for the vegetables while the meat sears hard. One plate is enough — you just need to know where to put what.

Zone Temperature Best for
Center 250–350 °C, up to 400 °C
Uwe Schott confirms approx. 350 °C near the fire opening
Searing, roasted flavors, steak
Middle zone 150–200 °C
once heated through, approx. 280–300 °C (Uwe Schott)
Cooking through, vegetables, fish, burgers
Outer edge 80–100 °C
once heated through, up to approx. 180 °C (Uwe Schott)
Keeping warm, finishing, resting

Zone 1: The Center, Up to 400 °C

Directly above the fire opening is where the plate’s sharpest heat forms. This is where the crust develops, where the roasted flavors form. A steak needs only a few minutes per side here. With the topper attachment, the meat also gets a juicy sear pattern, since the heat is concentrated and comes from below.

Grill master Uwe Schott confirms this value from his own practice: right at the fire opening, you’ll find approximately 350 °C. A guideline from his experience, not a measured, fixed value.

Expert Tip: Turning Steak Correctly Across the Heat Gradient

Grill master Uwe Schott (Grillschmiede Schott) recommends a simple principle for steaks on the fire plate: sear 2 minutes on one side first, then 2 minutes on the other. After that, don’t finish it at full heat — instead, move the meat back and forth two or three times between the center and the middle zone. That way the crust forms in the center while the meat slowly cooks through in the middle zone, instead of burning outside and staying raw inside.

For thicker steaks, Uwe goes one step further: after searing, he rests the meat on a warmed wooden plank at the edge of the plate (around 80–90 °C) and gives it a brief turn on the plate again every 10 to 20 minutes, instead of leaving it at full heat the whole time. This lets the heat work through evenly until the meat reaches a core temperature between 56 and 58 °C — the point at which he takes it off the plate.

Zone 2: The Middle Zone, 150 to 200 °C

Someone is turning food on the plancha griddle with a grill spatula

Most of what you’re grilling spends its time here. Vegetables cook gently in their own juices without burning. Fish cooks through until glossy. Smashed Burgers get their final minutes here after the crust has formed in the center. This zone is also why one plate works for several dishes at once, without one blocking the other.

These 150–200 °C apply to a freshly lit plate. Once the fire has been running longer, the heat migrates outward: grill master Uwe Schott observes closer to 280–300 °C in this zone at that point. A practical value from his own experience, not manufacturer-confirmed.

A fried egg belongs here too, though not directly on the open plate: grill master Uwe Schott places a roasting ring between the middle zone and the edge, cracks the egg into it, and lets it set inside. That way the yolk stays put instead of running across the plate.

Zone 3: The Outer Edge, 80 to 100 °C

Food resting at the outer edge of the Remundi fire plate

At the edge, the plate becomes a resting zone. Meat that’s already grilled can rest here so the juices redistribute instead of running out the moment you cut into it. Vegetables that are already cooked stay warm without cooking further. For anything that’s done but still has to wait, the edge is the right spot.

The 80–100 °C also applies to the early phase. The longer the plate is in use, the warmer the edge gets too. According to Uwe Schott, once the plate is fully heated through, it can climb to as much as approximately 180 °C. A quick check with your hand or the water drop test gives you clarity fast.

This cooler zone is also the right place for pancakes. Grill master Uwe Schott deliberately leaves only embers instead of open flame under the plate for this and doesn’t add the batter until the overall heat has settled down. Only once bubbles form and pop on the surface is the underside golden brown and the pancake ready to flip.

The Low Zone in Winter: More Than Just Keeping Food Warm

“A real game-changer for winter.”
Uwe Schott, Grillschmiede Schott

With the topper attachment, the low zone becomes a drinks station. A pot of mulled wine on the topper stays hot the whole time thanks to the residual heat, enamel mugs sit right next to it on the plate, and everyone gathers around the warm steel. Meanwhile, everyone can still grill something small on the free surface. The fire plate stays a reason to go outside, even once grilling season is officially over.

Reading Temperature Without a Thermometer: The Water Drop Test

You don’t need to measure the zones to recognize them. The most reliable test works with a few drops of water: splash some water on the plate and watch what happens to the droplet.

How the droplet behaves What it means
Evaporates instantly with a hiss, without beading Not yet hot enough for a hard sear
Beads into a small ball and skitters across the plate (Leidenfrost effect) Center is ready for a hard sear
Stays put and evaporates slowly Middle to low zone, suited for gentle cooking through

Known as the Leidenfrost effect, this test won’t replace a thermometer down to the degree, but it reliably shows you which zone is ready for a hard sear and which is better suited for gentle cooking.

Want More?

The temperature zones are just the start. Discover the right grills, watch the technique in action on video, or find inspiration for your next dish.

The Most Common Mistakes with Temperature Zones

Placed too early. If you put food down before the chosen zone has reached its temperature, you lose the crust. The meat cooks instead of browning, and releases its juices too soon.

Wrong zone for the dish. Delicate vegetables or thin fish fillets burn on the outside before they’re cooked through in the center. Conversely, a thick steak stays pale and crustless at the edge. The zone determines the result, not the clock.

Underestimating residual heat. Even after you take it off, meat keeps cooking from the heat it has stored. If you want to hit the exact doneness, take the food off the plate just before its target and let it rest at the edge or nearby.

How to Control the Temperature Zones Yourself

The three zones aren’t a fixed state. You can shift them by pushing the embers inside the bowl to one side when you want more heat at the outer edge. More wood in the center pushes the 400 °C mark further outward; less wood lets the whole plate cool down.

The plate’s sheer runtime also shifts the zones. Once the plate has been running for a while, the water drop test is more reliable than a fixed time estimate for judging the current temperature of a zone.

On the Remundi Pro Series, a steplessly adjustable air supply control takes care of this: more air, more heat; less air, longer and gentler cooking. You stay in control of embers and temperature for hours without constantly adding wood. The Basic Series comes without this control, but gets you at the fire in 15 minutes. That’s plenty for a spontaneous evening; for long grilling sessions with multiple courses, the air supply control pays off.

Is a Plancha the Same as a Fire Plate?

A plancha originally refers to a smooth, closed grill plate that also runs on gas or electric grills. A fire plate like the Remundi, by contrast, is fired with wood or charcoal and has the central fire opening that creates the three temperature zones in the first place. Both terms are often used interchangeably in everyday language — the grilling principle of a plate instead of a grate is identical.

Summary

Center: 250–350 °C, up to 400 °C (Uwe Schott: approx. 350 °C at the fire opening). For searing.
Middle zone: 150–200 °C, once heated through approx. 280–300 °C (Uwe Schott’s practical value). For cooking through.
Edge: 80–100 °C, once heated through up to approx. 180 °C (Uwe Schott’s practical value). For keeping warm and resting.
Control: shift the embers, use air supply control, or factor in runtime.

One plate, three zones, every dish in the right spot.

Frequently Asked Questions About Plancha Grill Temperature (FAQ)

How hot does a plancha grill get at maximum?

In the center of the fire plate, directly above the fire opening, you reach up to 400 °C under strong firing. In normal operation, the center runs at 250–350 °C. Grill master Uwe Schott confirms from practice a value of approximately 350 °C right at the fire opening.

What temperature do I need to sear a steak?

For a strong crust and roasted flavors, you need the hottest zone in the center at 250 °C or more. Sear for two minutes per side, then move the steak back and forth between the center and the middle zone instead of leaving it at full heat the whole time.

How do I keep food warm on the plate without it cooking further?

Place it at the outer edge of the plate. Only 80–100 °C reach there — enough to keep it warm, too little to keep cooking it. On a plate that’s been running for a while, the edge can climb to as much as approximately 180 °C, according to grill master Uwe Schott’s practical values.

How do I change the temperature zones while grilling?

Push the embers inside the bowl to one side to make a specific spot hotter, or add more wood to heat the center further. With the Pro Series’ air supply control, you can also adjust the heat steplessly via the air intake. Sheer runtime shifts the zones too: the longer the plate burns, the further the heat migrates outward, and the warmer the edge gets as well.

Is a plancha the same as a fire plate?

A plancha is a smooth grill plate that also runs on gas or electric grills. A fire plate is fired with wood or charcoal and has a central fire opening that creates the typical temperature zones in the first place.

Can I also use the fire plate at low temperature in winter?

The low edge zone works well with the topper attachment as a drinks station: a pot of mulled wine stays hot on it the whole time, while the plate itself serves as a heat source for the group.

How do I recognize the right temperature without a thermometer?

Splash a few drops of water on the plate. If the droplet beads into a small ball and skitters across the surface (Leidenfrost effect), the zone is hot enough for a hard sear. If it only evaporates slowly, you’re in the middle to low zone — ideal for gentle cooking.

Fire Pit Accessories: Everything for Grilling and More

You’ve got the fire pit, and the fire’s burning – but without the right accessories, a lot of that potential goes unused. Some things you need for basic upkeep, others are for anyone who wants to go all in on fire pit cooking. This guide covers both – what these pieces can do and what you need them for.

Short answer: What accessories do you need for a fire pit?

For basic upkeep, a spatula, cutlery holder, and cover are enough – on the BASIC series you can retrofit the ventilation set, on the PRO series it’s already included. If you want to go deeper into fire pit cooking, add a topper (searing & pots), smoker (smoking), wok set (vegetables), skewer tower (skewers), and cooking hood (smashed burgers).

The Basics: Accessories for Basic Upkeep

These items are worth it for every fire pit, no matter how often or how elaborately you grill.

What do you need a spatula for at the fire pit?

The spatula is the most-used tool at the fire pit – even more than the grill grate itself. After grilling, you use it to scrape leftovers and fat straight into the embers or through the central opening. No water, no dish soap, just the spatula. Anyone who takes care of their fire plate reaches for this tool regularly anyway – more on that in the guide Seasoning and cleaning a fire plate.

Stainless steel barbecue spatula

Scrapes grill residue cleanly into the embers. Alternatively, there’s the spatula-tongs combo – a spatula and grill tongs combined in one tool.

What’s a grill cutlery holder for?

Tongs, spatula, and brush within reach instead of in the grass or on the ground. The grill cutlery holder attaches directly to the fire pit and keeps your tools close at hand. Available in curved and straight versions.

Grill cutlery holder mounted on the fire pit, with grill tongs and spatula hanging within reach

Grill Cutlery Holder

Keeps tongs, spatula, and brush within reach at the edge of the fire pit. Curved or straight – depending on the model.

Why is a cover an important accessory?

Rain, leaves, and UV rays take a toll on your fire pit when it’s kept outside. A matching cover protects the plate and frame between grill nights. Models are cut to match the size of your specific fire pit.

Cover protects the fire pit from the weather

Cover

Protects against rain and UV rays when the fire pit is kept outside. Choose the size that matches your model.

What’s the ventilation set for the BASIC series?

On BASIC series fire pits, the ventilation set controls the oxygen supply and thus the embers – for more even heat over the entire grilling session. On the PRO series it’s already included, on the BASIC series you retrofit it. Not essential, but a useful addition for anyone who grills more often and for longer.

Ventilation set

Controls the oxygen supply and thus the embers – for more even heat over the entire grilling session. Standard on the PRO series, retrofittable on BASIC.

For Anyone Serious About Cooking

These items aren’t essential – they expand what you can prepare on your fire pit if you want to go beyond the basics.

What does a topper do on a fire pit?

The topper is the flat grilling surface directly above the flame. On it, you sear steaks over high direct heat. It’s just as good for placing a pot of sauce or – in winter – mulled wine. Available in three sizes, depending on your fire pit’s diameter.

Grill Master’s Tip: The Topper in Winter

Grill master Uwe Schott uses the topper for three things at once in winter: the fire pit provides the heat, the topper placed on top holds it and radiates it out to everyone gathered around the fire. There’s room on it for the mulled wine pot – the metal surface keeps the heat constant so the mulled wine stays warm – and next to it, guests’ enamel mugs, right on the plate. If you want, you can grill a little something for everyone at the same time. The topper is also what turns a 1-meter fire pit into a full 1-meter grilling surface – without it, the area above the flame isn’t usable all the way across.

Topper Grill Attachment Set

Available in M, L, and XL – the bigger the fire pit, the bigger the topper. Ideal for high-heat searing and as a spot to rest pots.

How does smoking work on a fire pit?

For anyone who wants to get deeper into grilling technique: the smoke tube delivers cold-smoke flavor with no extra heat needed – ideal for ribs, pulled pork, or fish. Fits fire pits in M and L as well as the Basic Zeus, set up with a special grill plate or smoker steel legs.

Delivers cold-smoke flavor with no extra heat needed – ideal for ribs, pulled pork, or fish. Fits fire pits in M and L as well as the Basic Zeus.

What’s a wok set good for on a fire pit?

In the wok ring, grilled vegetables cook fast and evenly over high heat without falling through the grate. Also great for Asian-inspired dishes straight over the fire.

Grilled vegetables seared in the wok set on the fire pit

Wok Set

Wok ring plus matching pan for high-heat seared vegetables right over the flame. Also available separately as just the wok ring.

What does a skewer tower attachment do?

For anyone who doesn’t want to leave skewers to chance: the skewer tower holds several meat or vegetable skewers over the embers at once – even cooking without constant manual turning. Available in M, L, and XL, depending on the number of skewers and your fire pit size.

Remundi skewer tower attachment on the fire pit

Skewer Tower Attachment

Several skewers cooked evenly at once. In M, L, and XL – for small get-togethers up to big parties.

What’s a cooking hood for on a fire pit?

The cooking hood is the accessory for smashed burgers: patty on the hot plate, cheese on top, cooking hood over it – the trapped heat melts the cheese in seconds without drying out the patty. You’ll find the complete recipe in Smashed Burger on the Fire Plate.

Topper, smoker, and skewer tower come in several sizes (M, L, XL) that need to match your fire pit’s diameter. Check your model size before buying.
